What is nutrition coaching?

What is nutrition coaching?

Have you ever wondered what nutrition coaching involves? With so much nutrition information out there on the internet and books, a lot of people think they have their eating figured out. A lot of people find it challenging to know if they are getting enough of certain nutrients and which information out there on the internet should be trusted.

How do you know what information to trust? I keep up on the latest research and the science of nutrition. It is a constantly changing science because it is still relatively new. We are continually learning new things about what nutrients we should be eating and others that we should limit in our diets. Nutrition is also different for everyone! There are various diets to help with different health concerns. There are dietary approaches to help with autoimmune diseases, foods that you can eat to help to boost your immune system, foods that are good for your gut health, and ways to eat for optimal nutrition for sports and performance. The field of nutrition is vast and I have experience working with all types of people and goals. I love working with each person to figure out what is best for each individual, since nutrition is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s not just about calories and fat. There are so many important micronutrients and each person’s needs are different. Some people love to cook, others hardly step foot in a kitchen. I have worked with both types and can adapt any nutrition plan to make it work for your level of cooking interest. All nutrition plans come with simple recipes that taste good and are easy to prepare. I like to cook, but prefer to make big batches and have meals for a few days. I understand how busy most people are and help to make sure your nutrition plan works with YOUR schedule. When I say I work with people, it is because I take an approach that we are a team working on nutrition together. I like to get feedback or lab results and adapt each nutrition plan as needed.

Newer research shows that it takes on average 66 days to form new habits. This is over 2 months of time and can be shorter or longer depending on the person. My goal with nutrition coaching is to help instill new habits in a person so that they make lifelong changes in how they eat. I want people to be healthier and to eat healthier.

Not only do I create plans, but I like to educate everyone I work with about why they should be eating certain things and how to pay attention to cues their body is giving them. Send me a note if you want to find out more about nutrition coaching and how we can work together to help you with your goals!
